How to get Partner Visa for Australia

 After having simple wedding, you may have to go through so many formalities to get shifted with your spouse lives abroad.

Who can apply?

Visa for spouse can be applied by spouse, fiancé of citizen of Australia, de facto partner, Permanent Australia resident or eligible citizen of New Zealand. Australian resident spouse or de facto partner for at least two years should sponsor your application.

Visa application process

It is a 2 stage process. Temporary and permanent visa, both is applied in the same application at the same time.

  • Temporary visa – you will have permission to work in Australia and travel anywhere in Australia till a decision is taken upon your application for permanent visa.

  • Permanent visa – permanent visa is granted after two years of applying. But you don’t have to wait for 2 years if you satisfy certain criteria.

1.   If you have been in relationship for at least 5 years with your partners.

2.   Your partner and you have been married for at least 2 years and also have children.

Basic requirements

  • Both partners must be 18 years or above.

  • Applicant must be de facto partner or spouse or future wife/husband of Australian citizen or permanent resident visa owner or eligible for citizenship in New Zealand.

  • Partner or spouse must sponsor for at least 2 years.

  • If you are married, Marriage Celebrant  must be legal according to Australian law.

  • If you are a de facto partner, your relationship must have elapsed 12 months.

  • Both partners must prove that relationship is genuine.
